Silence is Golden

Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.

The more you speak, the more you reveal how much you know, which unfortunately is usually not much ...lol.... Like the saying goes  : " silence is golden." Trick is to keep people guessing by keeping quiet. But how many people can do that?

Last week during meeting, our immediate Boss commit this mistake. The head of the department almost screamed at him. Truth is, no one wants to hear excuses. Our department didn't do well last quarter, we should just own it & promise to do better. Not make excuses. The immediate Boss do just that, worse he blame on us, the little people. The Head saw through that & told him off in front of us! Major embarrassment !

Arrogant people

Our latest client is from the sporting industry. Things has not been easy as that industry is more complicated than you think. Boz (my colleague & team leader) whose handling the account is up to his ears dealing with the clients. He snap in a meeting last week. Went on to rant about how much he hated athletes who thank God for their sports victories: "because people are starving in the third world & sometimes kids get cancer, but yes God thought his best work could be done at this sporting events...Arrogant F--Ks!!!!!

"Arrogant F--Ks" still reverberating off the conference room walls,  all of us from his team was preparing for the firing of a lifetime, but instead met with boisterous laughter from our Boss. And when the Boss laughs, everyone laughs!  Boss found the out burst hilarious ..... As such, Boz & our team was given another juicy account ! yay !!!

Dont ever be a nuisance to anyone, anywhere.

Friedrich Nietzsche summarizes life in one sentence!!! To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering. Wonderful !! Nietzsche is one of the best thinkers of all time, unfortunately he must be thinking of people like me & obviously had not met people like my friend's brother.

If you have been following my last post , you'll know I was cornered into 'introducing' a friend's brother to our firm. He has gotten in based entirely on his good looks & charms, maybe due partly to me, since I brought him in. Anyway from day one he was chatting up all the girls & it's freaking me out. The boss is a lady, & invited him for lunch first day!

I know my days of happiness is pretty much over & sure enough within the week, people have been slowly coming up to me, asking me to "talk to him", show him the robes. Naturally another group of people, the younger ladies were asking me a totally different set of questions- how we know each other, how's he like etc etc... Thank goodness he has fb , & I'm sure by now everyone would have check him out, & saw all his glamorous shots. Many were GQ standard, I'm serious!

Just yesterday this new girl from another department ask me how old is he! I gave her his fb link & ask her to check it out herself, she looked a little shy but oh so grateful :(

Some people act as if the world owes them a living......

My friend ask me to do her a small favor. In normal circumstances it'll be totally fine. But this is not any ordinary favor. She ask me to introduce her brother into our firm. Hmmm.... I've known her since primary school days, thus I know her younger brother too. He's not the world's most hard working guy, he got along by being really good looking & people usually give way to him & help him with everything. I can see what will happen if he join us. I might end up cleaning after him, like what his own family has been doing. 

I remember once my friend did quarrel with him over something small & she told him something like " You act as if the world owes you a living. The world (meaning her ..lol..) owes you nothing. It was here first". At that moment I was thinking , wow, that's insightful. Now she's asking me to do what she had refused to do? Surely she'll understand why I cant help right? But will she? After all she did ask me to help.

So I thought, let the Gods decide. I arranged for the interview. And guess what, he ace it. He charmed his way to a brand now job in this depressed market. I know my world is going to change from now on wards. I'm feeling like his new care taker :((

Never tell your problems to anyone

Yesterday was an awkward day for us in the office. The whole place almost came to a stand still as 2 colleagues "almost" physically fight. Yup that bad. Well things were thrown at each other. We have to separate the 2 girls or ladies, & let them cool down. My Boss wasn't in yet, thank god for that. But his 'spies' quickly keep him up to date the minute he walked in at 10:30.

What happened? It has something to do with Colleague 1 telling Colleague 2 her problem, they were buddies. And yesterday morning she found out it was Colleague 2 that leak the information out. That cause Colleague 1 to lose the chance of being sent for an overseas trip to Europe. Colleague 2 is the most likely to be taking her place. Now you see the problem???

Lesson here? " Never tell your problems to anyone...20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them." A wise person told that, the wise one would be my Boss ...lol..

I almost channel "DEXTER" today !

Do you agree that most charming people have something to conceal, usually their total dependence on the appreciation of others? You don't? LOL... sure there's always a handful that are genuinely saintly, but do you know them personally? And if you do, how many?

I'm not being pessimistic. If you do not care for how people thought of you, would you still be nice? That's the real question isn't it? There's always a little devil lurking inside us waiting to surface, if someone pisses us off. Hmmm... the trick is to be in control all the time. But how do you do it when people are pressing all your buttons?

Happens to me today. I almost channel "DEXTER" , after the incident. Sigh.... now I'm in a better place than an hour ago! I've calm down. So glad I took those meditation classes - they teach you how to breathe deeply during crisis & it helps !

I'll try to be orginal from now on :))

Hello everyone. A close friend commented that I'm a slacker & my blog lacks originality Because I just borrow what other- famous people said & quote. True! So for 2016, I'll "try" originality.

Seriously what does being original means? I don't really know. Friend said -means being yourself, say what's in your mind. But if you think about that, is that really that original after all. What's in my mind, are only fragments of what I've read, what I over heard what others said, friends' opinion, books I've read, movies I've watch & the list goes on...... All these information were somehow digest in my mind & you call that original? I discuss with this friend about that & she said " cut the crap, don't over analyze " & just write what's in your mind, that's good enough! OK.....
