Remember my shopaholic friend Yin ? As per last week, all her credit cards has been max out. She has been paying the minimum sum for months now. And she just ordered something online. Gave an excuse & ask another colleague to pay for her via the other colleague's card. Since the other girl didn't know her financial situation, she, obliged.
Do I tell the other colleague? Intuitively I know I should keep my mouth shut, it's not my business. But how can I let this happen, knowing she is seriously in financial distress? But who am I to judge?
This is making me very uncomfortable. I decided to confront her. Again, she brushed it off. Said she'll return the money once she got the pay & she is going to stop buying anything, until she paid up the credit cards debts.
We just received our pay. I overheard the other colleague asking her to return the loan. Yin said she has to clear her credit cards debts first as the interests are killing her, & said she'll pay the following month. The other girl was taken aback & walk away- no choice.
Later someone else revealed Yin's credit card debts situation. Apparently, it's not the first time she has ask people to 'pay for her online purchases first'. All hell broke lose after that. There were a total of 5 lenders (they had called themselves the 'victims ' by now), went up to complain to the Boss. Technically speaking , it's a private matter, but.......
So the Boss is involved now. Yin took me aside & begged me to help her. She'll sell me 2 of her 'old' LV bags to me. The Chanels , she can't bare to part with. But I don't need any old LV bags. So I become the mediator. She would have to part with 5 of her bags (she has a dozen by now) at 50% to 60% of the purchase prices depending on the age of the bag. The rest of the money owed would be resolved within a 3 month period. Sounds good? NO!
It seems none of these 5 people wanted her bags! Guess they were pretty pissed by now, also 3 of them were guys. So I organized a mini sale in the office, opened to everyone. In the end, 6 of her older bags were sold, but the money collected is only enough to pay for about 60% of the total debts she owed to the 5 Victims. Still it's better than nothing. If only she could part with her 2 Chanel bags. There's a couple of girls who would buy them, but Yin said NO! Anyway she has agreed to pay each of them about 300 per month, until the debt is cleared. And the saga continues ......
